While Baechler worked with printers Felix Harlan and Carol Weaver, in their East Canal Street workshop, Mark Baron and Elise Boisanté made several expeditions through Chinatown to find the rubber bathtub toys, cakes, and ice cream cones which he requested as subjects for these prints. Donald began by drawing the images, from life, on copper plates coated with soft-ground. After those line drawings were printed in black, Baechler painted the images in sugar-lift, on additional plates, to add color forms to his drawings.
